This September, WRT said a fond farewell to our Community Engagement Officer, Perry Burns, as he starts a new role with the Westcountry Rivers Trust down in Cornwall – we all wish him well and look forward to stronger links between our two organisations.
In his place, we are delighted to welcome Susan Perry as our new Community Engagement Officer!
Susan has been an educator for most of her career. Initially as a primary school teacher and for the last 11 years as an Education Officer for the Ernest Cook Trust. This involved taking children out into the woods and carrying out curriculum work or Forest school, but mainly enjoying, and appreciating the great outdoors.
Susan knows the upper Welland catchment well, having lived near Market Harborough for the past 20 years. She says:
“I love walking around the countryside with my dog Tilly, taking photos of anything and everything! I’m passionate about encouraging everyone to love the outdoors and appreciate and preserve their local area for the future.”
Susan will be taking over the management of our popular River Wardens citizen science programme, as well as the other outward facing aspects of the Trust’s work. Please get in touch with her if you’d like to learn more and get involved yourself!
