Local authorities now have the power to adopt Neighbourhood Plans, setting out policies that the community wants to apply when a planning application is submitted in their area. This presents a unique opportunity for the value of local open green space, natural features and wildlife hotspots to be recognised and given protection from unsympathetic development.
The rivers and streams that flow through our communities provide a vast array of benefits including flood risk mitigation, spaces for relaxation and opportunities to promote tourism. The Welland Rivers Trust and the Welland Valley Partnership have produced the following document to assist the thinking of your community when putting together a Neighbourhood Plan so that these benefits are protected and enhanced.
