Welland Memories Project

Welland Memories Project

Your stories, your river.

We have inherited the history of the Welland and its tributaries from those who lived and worked in this landscape before us. This history provides us with a sense of place and gives meaning and context to the changing world we see around us. We want to create a digital place for the history of our rivers to be shared and passed down to those who are yet to inherit them.

To create this collective memory, we are asking those who have memories or stories of the Welland and its tributaries to share them with us. This can include art, literature, music, old photographs, or anything that brings the history of our rivers back to life.

Do you remember your first wild caught trout? Lazy summer afternoons in the shade of riverside willows? A soggy walk home after capsizing your rowing boat? If you have a story to tell, we would love to hear from you!

What’s your story?

What will we do with your stories?

Initially this will be a pilot project. We will select suitable submissions and host them on our website with your permission. Your contribution will be publicly accessible, and perhaps inspire others to explore our rivers for the first time or allow those who are less able to access the river share in your story. With enough interest, we intend to expand this project to create a digital and physical exhibition of the art, literature and music we collect, enabling us to share more stories and inspire more people.

If you are interested in taking part, please email memories@wellandriverstrust.org.uk or use our online submission form below.

Please upload up to three files to bring your memory to life for others. This could be a photograph, text document or sound file. For large file submission, or if you're having trouble with an unusual file type, please contact us first!
